19 February 2004

I just got back from hearing an amazing speaker, Daryl Davis. If you didn't go, you really missed out. Thanks Kelly and Lindley for going with me. And Tracy, you were there too.
His message was that all types of people can do wonders for race relations and relations among other groups by just respecting others enough to sit down and listen and talk with them, and at the end of the day, they will realize that we are all more alike than they realized.
Thanks to Mr. Davis for speaking for us and for the piano solo.

This is one of those days when you just wanna roll around with the windows down and the radio up. And what's playing on the radio?
the Jam Of The Day: Kanye West- We don't care
(listen to it on iTunes Showtime's Music)

The once a year spectacle that is the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue arrived in mailboxes across the country today. Whats in this year's issue? Well, this is the 40th anniversary issue, featuring the SI Swimsuit Hall Of Fame... AND, a free Jimmy Buffett CD-ROM. This year's issue was also the "All-American Issue" meaning that it was shot entirely in the U.S.A., how patriotic. Now when you read it (of course only for the sports reporting and to catch up on the latest spring and summer fashions) you can know that you are just showing your love for America.
WOO HOO

Doesn't it seem fitting that at Wake Forest part of our post game celebration after big wins involves maintenance workers cleaning up the quad and grounds for several hours the next day? We're not spoiled at all. I bet they were pulling for duke last night. But don't worry, officers were guarding parking lots again today...

Don't forget, tonight at 7pm, Pugh.

18 February 2004

Few things in life are as sweet as college basketball.
Wow, what a game. Just take a moment and reflect.
Personally, my 3rd best of all time, behind the Duke game last year in the Joel, and the game at UNC this season. (the Duke vs. Kentucky game doesn't count because I don't have as vivid of memories of that, and I wasn't there.)
Sorry for those of you who couldn't make it (Lindley, Kelly, Genna, etc.) but I'm sure you were cheering as hard as you could in front of your TVs.
Trent was a huge boost today, as usual, coming off the bench for some huge alley-oops and playing good D, again drawing a charge.
Last year I shook Chris Paul's hand in the stands after watching us beat Duke in double over time as Trent threw down a 360 dunk to finish off the game. That was a couple of nights after Chirs's West Forsyth team beat Reynolds in the Annex. This year CP3 was on the court, in uniform to score 23 points (53 in his last 2 games). I'm sure it feels a lot better to play in the big building and beat the no. 3 ranked team in the land.
But Chris still hasn't replied to Nemanja's email... what's up with that Chris? Consider this an open invitation to come play poker in 313 any time.
Eric Williams broke out of his slump to have a huge game, finishing some tough shots inside, and dunking on Sheldon Williams towards the end of the game, a double double for BIG E.
What about J.J. you ask? Well, first of all, he is an A-HOLE, you don't just slap CP3 in the face, you just DO NOT DO THAT! But J.J. finished with 2 pts and 0 field goals for the first time in his career. Way to go J.J., Scooter was right.
  • Was He Looking For Gold?

  • And just what did Coach K have to say about the loss: "Our kids played their hearts out," he said. "If we play that hard, we are going to be fine. We don't measure what we do by our record, we measure what we do by how hard we play."
Yeah coach, easy to say when you have lost 2 in a row on the season, and 2 in a row in THE JOEL. Maybe you played hard, but hey, maybe we are just better.
If you have never rolled the quad, you are missing out. Its beautiful. BEAUTIFUL! Skip even came out and addressed the fans, saying that he wanted to cry at the pep rally before the clemson game.

Props Of The Day: The Whole Team, great effort.
And this is why I don't want to go abroad during the spring semester.
And also, there should be no class after games like this.

Again, sorry everyone who couldn't go, and to Cagney who missed it over in London, I'm sure it just wasn't the same on the radio.

Wow, what a game. This could be one of the coolest weeks in a long time. 2 Big wins for WFU, 2 Wins for Dale Jr. at Daytona, and just all around cool stuff happening.

And can you believe I actually wanted to go to duke? What was I thinking? Glad that didn't work out. "Columbus wasn't looking for America, but that worked out for everyone didn't it? I mean, you're here."

don't forget about the Daryl Davis talk tomorrow (Thursday) at 7pm.

I had more, but I can't remember for all the excitement.

    17 February 2004

Well I know everyone is getting excited about studying abroad, which is awesome, and I'd love to go to Europe this summer, or next. But there is a lot of the good old US of A that I (and probably you) haven't seen. So, for my spring break, and maybe again this summer I'll be taking a road trip. www.roadtripusa.com
ever heard of route 66? Maybe I'll go get my kicks.
Tentative road trip will be something like this:
Leave NC, head to Chicago, then to St. Louis, then Norman OK, then Dallas Texas, and then back to NC, stopping at anything interesting on the way. If you live near any of those places, get at me. Can it be done in 9 days? Who knows, may have to miss some school, so sad...

    17 February 2004

Don't forget, Thursday Night, the 19th at 7pm in Pugh Auditorium:

Daryl Davis: A Black Man's Odyssey Into The KKK.
    Free Admission.
BE THERE or regret it. Should be an awesome speaker.

    17 February 2004

So my car is having "major surgery", to the tune of 900 bucks. YEP, 900 big ones. New driveshaft and front ball joints. Sounds like fun. YAY! I miss her already, hopefully shes all better soon.

Jam Of The Day: Lynyrd Skynyrd- Simple Man

Big game tomorrow night... DUKE in the joel.

    16 February 2004

Ok so I'm sure that those of you who go to Wake have heard about the hostage situation by now. But for those of you who don't, here's the deal: The W-S police have blocked off a road on campus and evacuated a few buildings (faculty apartments) because there is a hostage situation on a street that backs up to that street. Apparently, the hostage situation is not on campus, but on a street that is directly behind campus. Someone has taken a member of his or her own family hostage in a house that backs up to Allen Easley Drive. This is rather disturbing, what kind of a person takes someone hostage to begin with, but much less, a person in their own family? That has to be one of the most cowardly things I have heard in a long time. I hope that the police can get the poor family member out safely and lock up the perp for a long time, because really, who takes a member of their own family hostage? COWARD.

    16 February 2004

    WOW.
Just think 1992 Duke vs. Kentucky in the NCAA tournament. kinda like that.
Pocket aces down one, taking the ball out under the other team's basket, 1.9 seconds left. Steve Hale takes the ball inbounds, as everyone goes deep and comes back, except for Matt Lopatka. Matt catches the ball, pump fakes and puts up the layup, it rolls round and drops in! GAME! Pocket Aces move to 1-1.
    like i said:
    WOW

Great team effort, if you weren't there, I'm sorry, you missed a great game. Thanks to the fans who came out again, the regulars, Genna, Kelly, Colleen.
    AWESOME.
Can't wait til next monday, I'll be there at 5, will you?

    16 February 2004

I forgot to mention earlier that Pocket Aces (Me, Nemanja, Matt, Barr, Matt, Steve) have a game today (Monday) at 5pm in Reynolds. Upstairs. The fans that came out last week were great, thanks, we're gonna need you all season.

    be there or be square

    15 February 2004

And also, the quad is beautiful when it snows, and that is all.

    15 February 2004

Quote Of The Day: "Guys actually had to drive their cars, the driver was put back into it. Guys got to race today, and that's what this race is all about. Junior should be proud. He didn't get lucky, he earned it." -2nd place finisher, Tony Stewart

Props Of The Day: CP3, Dale Jr, Julius Hodge, Rebecca Cline, J.J. Abrams

    15 February 2004

    What an amazing day:
    1st- We beat Cincinnati
2nd- DALE EARNHARDT JR wins the Daytona 500
    3rd- Mom comes to visit
    4rd- NC State beats duke
5th- New alias episode (finally) Lauren is such a ho-bag biznatch. And the next episode isnt for 3 freakin weeks!!! thats so annoying.

What, you ask, could make this day better? A nice little email and/or voicemail from Mr. Kevin P. Cox... still waiting.

    15 February 2004

We will always remember this as the day that Dale Earnhardt Jr. won his frist Daytona 500, 3 years after his father was killed in a last lap wreck at the same race.
Way to go Junior!!! 8! 8! 8! 8! 8! 8! Wooooo Hoooooo! Boogity Boogity Boogity!
  • Jr. WINS!!!!
