30 September 2005

Its Friday morning (well not really morning, as its 45 minutes past noon, but for me, still more or less morning) on the day before I take the LSAT, possibly the most important test I will ever take, or at least up to this point in my life. After staying up until 3:30am last night, my plan of waking up at 8, which then got pushed to 9 and then 9:30 didn't quite work, seeing as how I snoozed until 10am. But, that's what happens when one has no Friday classes. Two hours and forty-five minutes later as I lounge on the love seat, wearing AND 1 shorts and my Dallas Mavericks Josh Howard jersey, sipping my second cup of Folgers out of my Dale Jr. mug, pretending to practice logic games I realize a few things. Sometimes life is really great. Think about it, I'm 22, I go to a great school and I can do pretty much whatever I want. For example, after sending an e-mail to the OGB to inform them that they incorrectly stated that Kappa Alpha Psi came in third place in Hit The Bricks (it was actually Alpha Kappa Psi) S.Cagney informed me that he was going to write an article. "Great idea", I responded as I got up and walked to the bathroom where I proceeded to use the toilet with the door open. What a great feeling, I always remember a time as a kid when my mom (God bless her) yelled at me for peeing with the door open. Granted, I was downstairs in her house, and there were guests at the dining room table, so maybe that wasn't the best move, but now I can do that whenever I want. I remember when I was a kid, even younger than the bathroom incident, begging my mom to let me stay up until 10pm... I was so excited about it, I rented all three Karate Kid movies and I was going to watch them all before I went to sleep. I think i made it half way through the second one. But that event meant a lot to me. Those days are mostly gone, and soon, so will my Fridays of sitting around all day and doing nothing, or everything, or whatever I want. The real world is right around the corner, and whether or not I delay the really real world by three years of law school, my mostly carefree college career is coming to a close faster than Ben Mauk's tenure as the starting quarterback, and that's sad (well, not for WFU football fans). So for all of you who still have the chance, do whatever it is that you like, sit around in your J-Ho jersey all day, drink all night, go play sports or run, or cook, or do whatever it is that yo enjoy, but make the most of your time, and cherish it. And, don't worry if you don't spend enough time in the library, those lights cause skin cancer anyway, and what good is a sweet job if you can't enjoy it b/c you got skin cancer from all the hours you spent in the library as an undergrad? Wouldn't you rather be sitting in a tent under a tree on Davis field drinking rum and coke mixed in a bacardi bottle? Or making as much noise as possible in a dorm right before quiet hours? Or, having a milk/gatorade/apple juice drinking contest for your friends? Or even, hiding in a trashcan and jumping out to scare the shit out of your friends? Going to Wal-Mart at 2am just for the hell of it, streaking the quad... or the baseball field... or benson? Or even just sitting out on the quad and relaxing. Seriously, what would you not rather be doing than studying in the library? Yeah, you're whole life awaits, but don't forget to enjoy it, and I mean every minute of it; yesterday, today, tomorrow. And just be glad that you get to enjoy it, you'll thank yourself later. With that said, I'm going to sit on this love seat all day, in my pajamas, or maybe in my boxers, and I'm gonna drink coffee, watch movies, pee with the door open and do whatever else I want, including study for the LSAT, because that's fun for me, and the test will be too, and so will whatever comes after that, because who knows what that will be? Plans, what plans?

Thanks for letting me ramble, and stop peeing with the door open, you've got guests!
