I forgot to include this memoir the other night in my new years reflections.

One of my favorite new years must have come about five years ago, I think I had only been driving for a few months at this point and probably only had my provisional license. I started out the night at my old homegirl Ashlee Kirk's house (many a fond memory are from that house). Around 9pm (after which it was illegal for me to drive) I went over to my friend Neal "the scally pimp" Moody's house. There were a handful of characters there; Me, Neal, Case McNeil, Ted Rodgers, Amy Mann, Rachel Chaimberlain, Gina N., and probably a couple of others. Sometime after the midnight hour, the girls all left, and that was when the real fun begun. You see, earlier in the day Case had made the drive down to Myrtle Beach in search of fireworks. He certainly did not come back empty-handed. Being the "badasses" that we were, we decided to celebrate the changing of the year by setting off those fireworks. The backyard however was not a suitable arena for our presentation. This being the case, we made our way up to Wade avenue, setting off a few fireworks along the way, and then to Oberlin road. We found a development of townhomes that was under construction there on Oberlin, and there was a porta-john on the corner. We took a few of the massive smoke bombs that Case had brought back and set them off in that porta-john. From the street, it looked like the thing was seriously on fire. We loved it. From there we made our way back towards Wade avenue. At one road that turned right off Wade, we set up shop again. This time we set up a few of the previously mentioned smoke bombs and a ton of firecrackers right at the intersection. When we saw a car approaching, we lit all of the fuses, and the show began. The smoke was so thick that the turning car had to stop b/c all its lights showed was a massive cloud of white smoke. The firecrackers were amazing. As we made our escape from the scene we were jubilant from the excitement of the night. We went back to Moody's house to revel in the glory of our celebration. We had had the best time. To you this may seem like "weak sauce" or completely unexciting, but to us silly kids this was an amazing time. Its one of those times that you look back and smile about, one of those "hey, remember the time..." types of things. Maybe our new years celebrations are a lot more "grown up" or mature now, or maybe they are just different, but that was one great new years celebration. I hope that everyone that was involved in that celebration remembers it as fondly as I do, and I hope that I have not left out any important details in sharing it with you. Childhood sure was fun.

1 January 2004

Well, Happy New Year. In years past, new years has often been quite the let down. The reason seems to be that the build-up and anticipation were just too high. Everyone was all excited about new years, what's going on, etc etc. But it seemed like there never was that perfect thing to do to celebrate the new year, and when it wasn't just amazing, it was a let down. I guess that's why new years is not one of my favorite holidays. But this year I didn't get to hyped up about it, I was kinda anticipating a crappy night. Turns out that I had a good time, maybe not that much different from many other nights of going out, but it was still fun, and I wasn't expecting new years magic. I guess this is one of those cases where if you set your expectations low, you might be pleasantly surprised. Or, just go with the flow. So big-ups to an under-hyped and fun new year, it was nice to see everyone out last night, and if I didn't see you, I hope you still had fun.

2003 was a year which held a lot of changes for me, and probably for a lot of you as well, in many respects. It was an exciting and memorable year... think back to what you were doing in December (2002) and January of last year. Come a long way since then? I'd like to think that I have. Another year older, another year wiser? Perhaps, or perhaps not. You decide. A year full of memories none the less.

Another Christmas break is winding down, coming to a close, and while it will be nice to get back to school, to me it is always nice to be home and to be with old friends and with family. And an interesting, odd, and memorable break it has been as well (with still more fun to come I hope). As Nebo put it "I never even finished unpacking for this break and its almost over."

Props Of The Day: The Guys in Apartment 304. Nice Party. Thanks.

And a special Happy Birthday to Adam Yasin!

31 December 2003

What is new year's? Is it just an excuse to party? We are celebrating the changing of a digit, the passing of 365 days, or just one hour or one minute really. Just the passing and changing of an artificial period of time. But I guess it is important to break things down into years, it makes it easier to describe history to future people, and it allows us to put things in chronological order as well. Ahh, new years, maybe we should have new month's day too, every month... that would be fun. It has been an interesting year though, 2003. Lots of things have happened this year to be sure, on lots of different levels. Oh the memories. 2004 here we come...
