Big ups to Josh Howard in the Rookie Challenge

Also, I think Scooter might be onto something about J.J.:
  • J.J. Sucks

  • at least we can all agree that duke sucks.

Daytona 500 is right around the corner.

somebody go check and see if the cops are still guarding the parking lots...

Quote Of The Day: "A lot of dreams don't come true in life. If you can make somebody's dream come true, you should." St. Joe's Senior Guard Jameer Nelson.
...maybe YOU can make my dream come true...

Sometimes as I go about my day to day business here, I see things that just strike me as wrong. Most of them involve the way the university chooses to spend my parents hard earned money, the approx. $40k a year that they pay for me to go here. For example, today, just like last weekend, the university is paying their 'campus police' (read: rent-a-cops) to 'guard' the parking lots all around campus. They have roped them off w/ yellow crime scene tape, and there is an officer guarding each parking lot. The guy guarding the lot between Poteat and Kitchen was wearing his bright orange vest over top of his awesome brown uniform and was leaning up against his car just waiting for someone to try and park there. Same guy was there at 9am this morning too. I can't tell if he is a cop of if he is a UPS guy who just went running with his reflective vest this morning. If there are 4 parking lots on campus that they have to guard every Friday, that is 4 cops, for about 10 hours a day, thats 40 hours for one day. Lets assume they pay these guys about $20 an hour, thats 800 dollars for one Friday of guarding the parking lots. Now that is either $800 extra dollars because they had to call in extra officers, or it means that those 4 officers are not doing their regular jobs, which means that they are not out writing tickets for every car on campus, and protecting all of the students from rapists, muggers, and murderers. Either way, it is a waste of my money, and there is a high possibility that there are more than 4 lots being guarded, and that they are being guarded for more than 1 day a week. So we are looking at anywhere from $1000 and up, maybe as much as $4000 or $5000 a week for guarding our parking lots. well, 10 weeks of that is enough for one student to go to Wake for a whole year. Good job of spending OUR money wake, I really feel good knowing that our parking lots are being protected from students who may want to park there.
You know, it just hit me that maybe wake just employs too many campus cops in general. All they do is give parking tickets, drinking tickets, and guard the parking lots. Wouldn't our school be better off without all that? Just keep one or two around to respond to the real emergencies, and to keep us safe from all the law breakers, attackers, stalkers, and robbers. (oh, and to teach RAD).

check back for more ways that WFU is wasting our money.

    12 February 2004

Rad is dangerous. There is a reason that officer slater says not to go home and practice rad moves on your boyfriends; they need their shins. (and other parts for that matter). ouch!

And also, you shouldn't practice your LeBron James dunks in your room either...

Why do blondes wear big hoop earrings when they go on a date?

    12 February 2004

Well I don't know where you all were at 7pm tonight, but I didn't see any of my readers in carswell, (if you were there and i missed you, my bad) and that's a shame because you missed an amazing speaker. Dr. Hoda Hosseini speaking on the oneness of the human race and the destiny of America. Maybe you didn't know that all people are as closley related as 50th cousins, or that all humans' DNA is over 99% identical. The U.S. government has conducted studies called the racial parity index that show that it takes 169 years for a black male to have the same earning power as a white male, thats right, 169 years for a black male to catch up to a white male. 300 years for a black family to have equal family income, and 500 years for blacks to have equality in education. Blacks are six times more likely to serve a jail sentence in America for the same crime as whites. Over the past 15 years, GM has charged blacks 3% higher interest than whites on car loans, and dealers have raised prices for blacks as well.
Is this a land of liberty, justice and equality for all?
Do your part, be educated, put an end to stereotypes, get to know other types of people, don't continue these stereotypes and unfair treatment. Ending racism starts on an individual basis.

Maybe I'll see more of you on Thursday February 19th in Pugh Auditorium at 7pm when Daryl Davis presents "A Black Man's Odyssey Into The Ku Klux Klan".

    12 February 2004

This kinda reminds me of Wake.
  • Funny

  • Warning: may be offensive if you take your sorority seriously.

Dale Jr. won the first Gatorade 125 today, meaning that he will start on the inside of row 2 for Sunday's Daytona 500. Go JR!

And also, my car is still messed up.

    11 February 2004

Apparently the snowboarding spirits are angry with me. They just don't want me to ever get to the mountain by 6pm. And, they don't want me to go this weekend. So we are on the way to boone, we have only been about five miles and my car starts going crazy. Thump thump thump thump thump thump... rattle rattle rattle rattle, and it was worse the faster i went or when i turned. GREAT! all of a sudden. It was fine yesterday, what the heck happened? I guess I'll be taking it to the shop instead of to boone this weekend. :(
And also, apparently Wednesday is not a good night to go to App Ski Mtn. All the kids from ASU are there taking their classes and doing their ski/snowboard club thing and clogging up the slopes. They just all group up like crazy at the top and bottom, and heck even in the middle of the slope. On a positive note, the conditions were OK, not as good as this past weekend, but it is supposed to snow there, AND HERE tonight and tomorrow. So, if you want to go to beach or sugar on saturday and want to take me with you, let me know.
Also, EVE was lookin good on David Letterman tonight.

Also, tomorrow (Thursday) 7pm in the Anneburg forum in Carswell, speaker on the future of race relations in America.

And furthermore, Saturday is valentine's day woo hoo.
Monday- Pocket Aces, game 2, Reynolds Gym, 5pm. BE THERE.

    11 February 2004

The last time I checked it was February and it was cold outside. That means we don't wear flip flops and short skirts to class. I would think that students at Wake would have more manners and common sense than to put their bare feet up on a chair in the middle of class in February. But I guess some peole don't, or maybe they just assume that I enjoy looking at their pastey feet and legs propped up all over the classroom while im trying to learn.

Snowboarding tonight at App. Saturday at Beach Mtn. Snow on the way tonight and tomorrow.

This thing about Osama being captured, its BS, its just some thing about a video game. Read the fine print. Its some www.buddylinks.net BS thing, so don't get too worked up.

Also, is anyone else getting tired of the Ying Yang Twins and Lil John and the East Side Boyz? All their songs are featuring each other, and they all use the same beat. Not to mention that the lyrics dont really say anything other than asking you to dance. Yeah, good hype/dance songs are ok, but we don't need a bunch of them from one group w/ the same beat, they are just trying to ride their one good beat to more fame and money. And personally, I dont like it, or them, and I don't particularly care for their music either.

There is a Bear Rock in/on Windover?? is that a town or a street, or is it in greensboro?

Props Of The Day: Team Snigs and Neal Moody.
"Nebo33: Team Snigs just got our gamed called on the mercy rule with 5 MINUTES left and we were up 78-31
Nebo33: i myself dropped 33, 2 more than their entire team
Nebo33: including a double hand tapping boards alley oop
Nebo33: if thats not showtime props of the day, pimp, i dont know what is"

but just remember, only Showtime can give out the props of the day.

I wish Pocket Aces could win one b/c of the mercy rule. or score 71 points for that matter, maybe we should have played C league

Special bon voyage to Emily Collins, EMC on the way to New Zealand, to play w/ thed kiwis, that's gonna be a fun plane ride.

undercover news: Bear Rock will soon be rolling out a new menu.

    9 February 2004

Well once again UNC basketball has gone and embarrassed itself.
Recruit JamesOn Curry has been arrested for dealing pot. "Curry is charged with two counts each of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana; two counts of sale and delivery of marijuana; and two counts of possession and selling and delivering a controlled substance on school grounds."
In response to the arrest, Rashad McCants actually said something intelligent for the first time in his life, "he's got a scholarship to North Carolina. Everybody's watching. He can't do anything that's going to jeopardize that." words of wisdom from shad shad, the same man who's away messages often say "gone to the gym to make my arms as big as my d*%k"

Lets examine the situation, first of all, we need to blame the parents. Who names their kid JamesOn? Where is the logic behind that? Of course, this kind of thing isn't new at UNC, Joe Forte was arrested while at UNC, and other UNC athletes have been arrested in recent years.

    read it for yourself:

    Update:
Pocket Aces are not 0-1 after losing their first game. The team was in good shape at halftime, down only 2, but fell into a slump early in the second half when they went into a man to man defense. The team looks to rebound next week when they play on Monday at 5pm in Reynolds gym. The team however is in danger of getting a poor sportsmanship rating as one of the players is already on the bad side of the referees. The conclusion... refs suck, just call your own fouls. That way the sports and rec department could save a good chunk of money that they spend on ref salaries. (but from now on you can just call me "bad mood basketball")
Thanks to the fans that came out though, the support was great, looks like we are gonna need it this year.

PS: thanks to Rich who stepped in when one of our starters didn't show up and didn't give notice. Props.

    7 February 2004

Tonight I was kind of a cross between Shaun White and a Screamin' Demon, minus the cheering and minus the cab 900s.
Awesome conditions, a bit cold, but some good snow, too bad we didn't all have goggles, that put a damper on some of the shredding. There were five of us tonight, thanks to the addition of Kelly, who shredded hard core. The discovery of the night was that shaped skis make shredding better, but since I don't ski since that is for sissies, that didn't really apply to me. Luckily it didn't snow enough to get us stuck in Boone, but we did get to dine at the 2 story Wendy's.
And also, pictures in a snowy field would have been nice.
Anyway, all in all a very nice evening, even after a nasty loss at the hands of my arch nemesis.
Sunday is on the horizon, a Sunday with no football and no NASCAR, and that is a shame, it means plenty of work for me, and most likely, new content for you.
Daytona is right around the corner.

Oh, and that whole "vote for your favorite super bowl commercial" thing didn't exactly work too well. So we won't try any crap like that again.

And, if anyone finds a wallet belonging to one Ryan J. Feeley, please let me know, or just IM PICCOLODEAC . Right, you've been great, my time is done.
